SEOUL, October 1, 2021 – Osstem Implant Co., Ltd., the top dental implant company in sales in the global market, accelerates growth driven by major growth engines of vibrant ‘research and development (R&D)’ and robust ‘clinical education’ program for dentists.

Under the firm conviction of its founder, the dentist-turned entrepreneur, and its president who previously led an implant R&D center, Osstem Implant strategically concentrates resources on R&D activities. Currently, the company invests 11% of its revenue into R&D projects. Researchers at its Central Research Institute established last year in Magok, Seoul now exceeds 500 as the new research operation continued to increase research manpower since its launch.

The Central Research Complex of Osstem Implant located in Seoul occupies a total floor space of 71,127.27 square meters, consisting of 15 specialized research units in space of 29,752.07 square meters and laboratories in space of 9,917.36 square meters. These institutions develop diversified dental materials and equipment including implants, software, digital dentistry, and interiors, serving as a cradle of total solutions needed for the dental clinic.

Osstem Implant boasts world-class technologies in fixture design that enhances early fixation ability even in weak bony tissues as well as in surface treatment that induces fast osseointegration.

As a product integrated with its technologies that build blood clots most rapidly among existing implants, the SOI of Osstem Implant is the world’s first dental implant that adopted coating substance. Raising success rate in early-stage osseointegration, surface technology of SOI can shorten the healing period by over 35% compared to other existing implants. Osstem Implant achieved global patent rights for this proprietary technology.

As outcomes of bold investments, persistent research and development, and overwhelming technological prowess, premium quality of Korea-developed implants and bone graft materials is highly evaluated by achieving rigorous and complicated product certification from the European Union, the top-grade recognition from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the certification from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

A recent survey conducted by the Clinical Translational Research Center for Dental Science at Seoul National University Dental Hospital and Osstem Implant showed that the company ranked top in global sales of implants for 4 consecutive years from 2017 to 2020. During the past four years, Osstem Implant sold approximately 68 million implant products in the global market.

Clinical education, another growth engine of Osstem Implant, was launched in 2001 with the establishment of the Advanced Implant Research and Education Center as an implant clinical education organization.

Thanks to the efforts of Osstem Implant exerted to improve the clinical capabilities of Korean dentists, Korea ranks top in the world both in implant placement rate and proportion of dentists who can perform implant procedures.

The clinical education of Osstem Implant places emphasis both on theory and practical skills. Education courses include theoretical education tailored to each clinical stage and on-the-job training programs such as ‘hands-on’ and ‘live surgery’ that will be helpful for real-life clinical settings so that trainees – from beginners to skilled practitioners – can grow as clinical professionals.

The ‘Master Course’, in particular, is a premium clinical education program designed to enhance the independent surgical procedure rate of dentists. Systematically composed of entire courses ranging from the Basic of surgery and supplement to Surgery of implant and Prosthodontics of implant, the program covers everything of the implant. As of the end of August this year, more than 98,000 dentists worldwide fulfilled clinical education of Osstem Implant.

In addition, Osstem Implant provides implants as well as dental materials and digital equipment in more than 80 countries with overseas subsidiaries and dealer networks while producing 16.5 million sets annually at its manufacturing facilities in Korea, the United States, and China.

With the goal of growing as the global top dental implant company by 2026, Osstem Implant is exerting all-out efforts in research and development, education, and overseas sales.
